About

Rhian

Rhian Wight is a Canadian Certified Counsellor with nearly a decade of experience providing compassionate, trauma-informed care. She is also a seasoned career coach and post-secondary mental health consultant, known for her ability to create safe, supportive spaces for clients navigating life’s most difficult transitions.

With a Bachelor of Business in Human Resources and a Master of Counselling Psychology—both earned with honors—Rhian blends professional expertise with lived experience. Her path to counselling began during her time as a College Director, where she supported students facing anxiety, diagnoses, and domestic abuse. Motivated to make a greater impact, she returned to school for her Master’s while working full-time and raising three children as a single mother.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Rhian developed a mental health capacity-building program that reached over 3,000 Alberta students. She has also contributed to non-profit mental health organizations, researching peer support models and the housing crisis. At Simon House, she provided counselling and developed curriculums aligned with Alberta Health Services, focusing on mental health recovery and self-discovery. Today, she continues to design programs supporting families, women recovering from sexual abuse, and faith communities.

Rhian specializes in helping individuals cope with overwhelming stress, anxiety, and major life transitions. Her approach combines strength-based and solution-focused therapy with a deep understanding of how trauma impacts the nervous system. As a divorce and breakup recovery expert, she emphasizes healing and stability before legal processes begin, helping clients move forward with resilience.

Her extensive experience spans court navigation, addiction recovery, and connecting clients with community resources. She has supported individuals facing challenges such as car accidents, mental health struggles, addictions, divorce, emergency protection orders, family reunification, immigration issues, bullying, and job loss.

Outside her professional role, Rhian values time with her three teenagers—two of whom are inspired to study psychology—and enjoys walking, travel, and self-care practices. She believes mental health care should be both preventative and restorative, integrating rest, relaxation, and expression with complementary therapies such as acupuncture, massage, physiotherapy, and chiropractic care.

Rhian’s work is grounded in the belief that healing becomes possible when people feel supported, understood, and empowered.
